Bexley Interfaith Forum Social Event and Fundraiser September 2019

The event was sponsored by the P L Mulligans Family Funeral Directors who have generously donated £500 towards our fundraising effort which was aimed at supporting Mayor’s of Bexley Umbrella Charity Appeal.

Pictured below Bexley Interfaith Forum chairman Rev Trevor Wyatt and P L Mulligans’ Director Steve Adams.

The evening was opened with the warm welcome from the Forum’s chairman Rev Trevor Wyatt.
The event was graced by the presence of the Deputy Mayor – Councillor James Hunt and members of parliament for Bexleyheath and Crayford – Sir David Evennett and Old Bexley and Sidcup – James Brokenshire.

Once again interfaith dialogue successfully created constructive and positive interaction as we were honoured to have the variety of stimulating speakers from different religions and faith groups.;
• Dr Zaza Johnson Elsheikh
• Dr Fazlur Rashid representing Crayford Mosque
• Rev Richard Martin on behalf of the Bishop of Rochester
• John Cooper representing Baha’i faith
• Councillor Mabel Ogundayo (Labour)
• Kulvinder Singh on behalf of the Bexley Sikh community
• Omer Faruk (The Lighthouse Educationsl Society in Welling
• Asif Hassanali from Kemnal Park Cemetery
• Bhaven Pathak from Yog Foundation

The evening concluded with MP James Brokenshire announcing the winner of the competition for the best idea on how can we build our communities together.

The winner of the competition Bob Bedwell received £50 Bluewater voucher donated by P L Mulligans Family Funeral Directors.

Yet again Bexley Interfaith Forum social event was a tremendous opportunity for people of all different religions and faith traditions to celebrate our diversity and come together socially to build relationships and engage with each other but also to work together on a social action project which was fundraising for the Mayor’s of Bexley charities.
It is important that we cooperate because through faith groups working together on a social action project, strong relationships can be built; these initiatives provide a positive image of faith groups in the Borough as well as making a difference.
We would like to encourage as many people as possible to get involved in the similar events in the future.
